Kaiser Chiefs cruise to first CAF Champions League Final

South Africa’s Kaiser Chiefs made history after they cruised into their first CAF Champions League final despite a goalless draw with Wydad Athletic.

The Amakhosi had to hold off the Moroccans to secure a sensational semi-final victory after winning the first leg 1-0.

Chief’s Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi was voted man of the match after producing some magnificent saves. The goalie also maintained his flawless record of not conceding a goal in over 8 hours in goal in this season’s CAF Champions League campaign.

This was the Kaizer Chiefs’ seventh – and most important – clean sheet of the CAF Champions League campaign as they secured their passage to the tournament’s showpiece finale on 17 July at Morocco’s Mohammed V Stadium.

The Chiefs’ squad were battered by a number of withdrawals this week, which saw them enter the clash with just their starting eleven and five substitutes.

The first half was characterised by constant pressing by the Moroccan side. However, Chiefs somehow held onto their slim aggregate advantage.

Chiefs were more on the defensive, but they still fancied sneaking a goal on the break and they so nearly did in the 62nd minute when Nurković’s downward header was heading into the top corner from Reeve Frosler’s cross down the right, but the effort was brilliantly saved by Tagnaouti.

However the Amakhosi were able to hold on to their slim 1-0 advantage and reach their first finals of the CAF Champions League.
