Africa: Nigeria to host the Basketball Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in August for African teams.
2 min readThe FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament will take place from August 12 to August 20. The African games will be held in Lagos, Nigeria.
The road to Paris 2024 is still open for 40 countries that did not qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
The winners of each Olympic pre-qualifying tournament will line up at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament so as to get those that will part in the Olympic games for Paris 2024.
Eight teams in Africa will take part in the pre-qualifying games, these teams include; Senegal, Mali, Uganda, Nigeria, Congo DR, Cameroon, Guinea, Tunisia.
Uganda was grouped in Group A along side Senegal, Mali and Nigeria. Uganda is current ranked 73rd by FIBA in the World, Nigeria is 19th under FIBA World Rank.
Group B has DR Congo, Cameroon, Guinea and Tunisia.
Group phase games will kick off on the 12th August in Lagos till like 17th then after we head for the Semi finals.
The five FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments will be held from August 12-20, 2023, with the five winners earning spots in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments to be held in July 2024.
The host (Nigeria) will kick off with Senegal as Uganda will play against Mali. Group B games will start on the 13th August.
