Express Fc ascended to the top of the Startimes Uganda Premier League table with a win away against Busoga United at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
The Red Eagles ran riot against the Jinja based side scoring 4 unanswered goals. Winger Geoffrey Lwesibawa scored a hatrick before on-form forward Kambala sealed the win with the fourth goal for the Wankulukuku based side.
Having lost 3-2 away to Mbarara City, Vipers threw away maximum points. Express now top the table with 55 points, URA 54 (with a game at hand) and Vipers SC 52.
The square pass have been in prolific form this season only losing twice to UPDF and Bright Stars in the first leg of the 2020/21 league season.
The mukwano gwa bangi have played 25 games, scoring 40 goals, shared spoils 7 times, lost twice and conceded 13 goals this season.
Erick Kambale has had a superb season so far with the Red Eagles. The young star is the top scorer for the league leaders having scored 13 goals. He is also the second top scorer in the league after Vipers SC marksman Yunus Ssentamu with 15 goals.
At this period of the season, every point matters and Express have done their best to collect maximum points. They play Airtel Kitara next aiming to collect maximum points.
Express is one of the most successful clubs in Uganda cup winning competitions with 10 Uganda Cup honors and 6 Uganda Premier League trophies.
The Red Eagles last won the league trophy in 2012 after Wasswa Bbosa guided the team to the title after 16 years. It was a season characterized by financial struggles on the side of the club.
The Red Eagles were among the first Ugandan clubs to use football boots and since the club was revived in 1979 they have ever been relegated from the top tier league. They are the only Super League side that has never featured in the promotional mini leagues. Hassan Mubiru finished the club and league’s top scorer for three consecutive seasons from 2001 to 2003.
