Black Pirates Vs KOBs: Are We Looking At An Early Title Decider?

Here is a simple equation. Black Pirates beat Heathens, Heathens beat KOBs and KOBs will have to beat Team X to stay in the title race. Find Team X.

In a league that has traditionally always been a three horse race, every win or loss matters. The Black Pirates are still unbeaten in 6 games, while the Heathens, KOBs and Impis have each suffered a single loss in as many games. The Impis are in a race against themselves this season, beating previous club records. On the other hand, the Heathens and KOBs are out to bag some silverware.

The Heathens Respond

After a loss on Game Day 1 of the season, the Heathens have gone off on a winning streak. Whether stealing victories from the jaws of the KOBs and Hippos in the dying minutes of the game, or thrashing Buffaloes, Rhinos and Impis, the Kyadondo boys know how to win.

Veterans Chris Lubanga and Faisal Gamma have been relegated to cameo appearances for the fresher halfback pairing of Nicholas Kato and Aaron Ofoyrwoth, whereas skipper Michael Wokorach and Lawrence Ssebuliba have had to deputise in the forawds pack. The Heathens backline is as lethal as their pack, and an argument can be made that Black Pirates had the privilege of playing a sleeping giant.

Woes continue for the Rams as they go away to the razor sharp Heathens at Kyadondo this Saturday at 4Pm, a must win for the swamp dwellers.

The KOBs Are Unfazed

Despite succumbing to a painful loss at the sword of the Heathens, the KOBs are looking ice cold composed. They secured a losing bonus point in the aforementioned game and have won all their games with a bonus point.

A wealth of experience has also come in handy for the boys in blue. Old timers like Davis Kyewalabye, Oscar Kalyango and Lawrence Wakabi have come back into the fold to show the young blood how it’s done. The KOBs will go into Saturday’s game with overflowing confidence in themselves, but also with caution and consideration for their hosts.

Why The Pirates Need This Win More

The ‘Sea Robbers’ are on top of the league log with 28 points, just 2 points ahead of the KOBs. A draw or a loss will leave them 3rd on the table, behind KOBs and Heathens respectively. Relinquishing this lead to fellow title contenders, KOBs, shall prove costly to the Bweyogerere Boys since they have a slimmer points difference margin compared to the other two sides.

Since 2017, the Black Pirates haven’t lifted the league title and this seems to be their year. The squad has matured from the flashy boys they once were, to the efficient force we see now. A home victory against KOBs is the big boost they need to power through the Round 1 of the league.
