FIFA: Former CAF Vice-President banned from football related activities

Omari, former FIFA Council member and the chairperson of the Ethics Committee’s investigatory chamber, and also former DR Congo Football Association President has been banned from any kind of football-related activities at national and international level.

FIFA: Former CAF Vice-President banned from football related activities

Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has sanctioned a 12-month ban on Constant Omari Selemani. Omari, former FIFA Council member, and the chairperson of the Ethics Committee’s investigatory chamber, and also former DR Congo Football Association President has been banned from any kind of football-related activities at national and international level.

He has also been fined EURO 66,444. According to FIFA, the sanction was effected on 18 June, 2021, the date of validation of the agreement by the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber.

A formal investigation against Omari was opened on 7 January 2021 after he was accused of accepting and receiving bribes from Lagardere Sports amounting to EURO 66,444. Omari was conducting an agreement between CAF and Lagardere sports in connection with commercialization of certain TV rights licensed to the LC2 Company and to the collection of the latter’s outstanding debts.

Omari, who led the negotiations on behalf of CAF, resulted in contractual, provisions that were detrimental to CAF, causing significant financial damage to the confederation.

Omari’s ban will last until 18 June, 2022, exactly a year from the date of effecting the sanction.
