Heathens Vs KOBS: Lion’s Cup wraps up with controversies.
2 min readOne of the highly anticipated and more intense fixture with the last minutes’ penalty awarded by the referee Ronald Wutimba to Heathens led the Defending Champions Heathens Rugby club to a 19-12 points victory against their rivals Kobs Rugby club over the weekend at Kyadondo Rugby grounds.
Kobs seemed hungry to overturn the 15-17 first round loss at home and extend the gap in the title race which ended in vain. The two teams were tied at 12 points until the referee Ronald Wutimba penalty decision to Heathens towards the crunch time which the Kampala Old Boys side protested and later players left the pitch.
“Probably it isn’t but just as you stated earlier, A Win is a Win. We came ,we took good account of ourselves, we played hard and eventually we won”~ Athiyo Nyango ( Heathens, Head Coach) after being asked if this the manner in which he would have loved to walk away with those points during the post-match interview.
Uganda Rugby Union league management continues to investigate about this controversy and other issues that arose out of the Rugby Premiership games on 1st April and is yet to issue its statement.
