ICC Men’s T20 WC Qualifier B: Uganda Finish Fifth Place

The Cricket Cranes finished fifth in the just concluded ICC Men’s T20WC Qualifier B, as hosts Zimbabwe came up with an incredible bowling performance to be crowned the winners.

The Cricket Cranes kicked off their campaign with a 2-wicket win against Hong Kong.

Sadly for Uganda, team captain Brian Masaba missed out due to injury and Kenneth Waiswa took up the role as Hong Kong won the toss and elected to bat first.

Dinesh Nakrani continued his superb form with a top performance from the big hitter against Hong Kong.

The Cricket Cranes lost their second game against Papau New Guinea (PNG). PNG won by 8 wickets. Uganda was seeking to make it two in two and earn a place in semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

Cricket cranes faced the Netherlands in their third and last group stage game as they sought a semifinals slot at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, but lost by 97 runs.

Captain Kenneth Waiswa won the toss and Cricket Cranes forced Netherlands to bat first.

The Dutch were going for a single boundary in each over which proved a good strategy allowing them to get a couple of singles too and they have wickets in hand.

The Crested Cranes then played Jersey in Game 4 at the Queens Sports Club. Uganda managed to win by 5 runs thus booking a tie with Hong Kong in the 5th/6th playoff final played on Sunday.

Uganda beat Hong Kong by 4 runs with a low-scoring nail-biting win to finish 5th in the T20 World Cup Qualifier B in Zimbabwe.

Uganda came into the tournament as one of the lowest ranked teams. The three wins secured by Uganda will up their global T20 rankings as will be announced.

Upon return, the Cricket Cranes will start preparations for the final leg of the Challenge League B tournament that starts on August 2nd-15th in Jersey.
