Kawempe Muslim continues annual dominance in the FUFA women’s league
Kawempe Muslim Ladies Fc have continued their yearly superiority in the FUFA Women’s League.
The volleys warriors began where they left it in the super League when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted sports, and have already earned qualification in the Super League.
In 2019, the Women Super League was introduced to the Ugandan women’s football system with the FUFA Women Elite League re-organized as the second division under the Women Super League.
The inaugural season of the Women Super League which started with 8 teams, abruptly ended in May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic
The league is the successor of the Elite Women Football League, which ran for five years. That league was played in regional groups that played play-offs for the championship afterwards. The champioship finals were:
- 2014–15: Kawempe 3-2 Buikwe
- 2015–16: Kawempe Muslim 0-0 (4–2 pen) She Corporates
- 2016–17: Kawempe Muslim 4-0 UCU Cardinals
- 2017–18: Kawempe Muslim 1-0 Olila Women
- 2018–19: UCU Lady Cardinals 2-0 Lady Dove
After the resumption of the league, [Kawempe] girls made a statement after winning their first game of the league by four goals to nil against Lady Queens. Goals from Margaret Kunihira, Rhoda Nanziri, Allen Nasazi and Hadija Nandogo gave Kawempe a superior goal difference going into the other games.
Kawempe Muslim suffered a set back after losing their second game in the Match Day 2 to Uganda Martyrs Rubaga by a goal.
The volley warriors went on to win their third game of the qualifiers by two goals against Tooro Queens.
They went on to seal qualification after beating Makerere by a goal courtesy Allen Nasazi’s first half goal. She leads the top scorers chat with three goals.
The result left Kawempe girls with 9 points from 4 games, securing automatic qualification into the Super League.
Meanwhile, both Kampala Queens and Uganda Martyrs are level on 6 points. However, Kawempe girls have a better goal difference of five.
Today’s fixture sees Kampala Queens battling it with bottom side Makerere University while Uganda Martyrs play Tooro Queens who are second from bottom with three points.
