The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League is back this Friday with three debutants.
2 min readFive time champions TP Mazembe will be on the hunt for their sixth trophy this season.
They are in Group A alongside Mamelodi Sundowns who were 2016 Champions, Pyramids FC and FC Nouadhibou are debutants in the tournament.
Wydad Athletic from Morocco have won the tournament three times and they will play along Tanzania’s Simba SC who are three times quarter finalists.
They are in the same group with ASEC Mimosas who are 1998 Champions and Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy FC who are taking part for the second time.
Group C has four time Champions, FC Esperance Tunis along side Etoile Sahel who last won the trophy in 2007. Atletico Petroleos are two time semi – finalists and Al Hilal Omdurman ( 1987, 1992 runners up).
This is Young Africans first group stage appearance since 1998. They will play along Medeama SC who are also debutants and 11 time Champions Al Ahly FC plus three time quarter finalist CR Belouizdad in group D.
Group D looks like the toughest amongst all the groups for this season’s tournament.
The CAF Champions League kicks off this Friday 24.11 with Mamelodi Sundowns hosting new debutants Nouadhibou FC from Mauritania.
Young Africans will travel to Algeria to play against CR Belouizdad in their first group stage games.
Debutants Pyramids FC welcome D.R Congo’s TP Mazembe at 30 June Stadium in Cairo for their first game of the tournament ever.
