UGANDA CUP FINAL

Vipers SC vs Bul FC

Time: 3pm

Venue: King George Stadium, Masindi

PREVIEW

Vipers SC will be looking to win two consecutive finals against the same opponent when they take on Eastern giants Bul FC in the final of the 48th edition of the Stanbic Uganda cup slated to take place on Sunday 12 June, 2022.

The Venoms will be aiming for their third Uganda Cup honors, while BUL will be chasing their first (Uganda Cup honor) after losing last season’s final to the same opponent (Vipers SC).

Vipers have been to five Uganda Cup finals. However, they have lost three of them (finals) to URA (2012), SC VU (2013) and KCCA (2018).

Vipers defeated Mbarara City home and away to reach their second Uganda cup final in two years. Meanwhile, Bul FC huddled past FUFA Regional League side Boma FC to set up a second final in two seasons against the Uganda Premier League champions.

In 2016, the Venoms defeated then newly promoted Uganda Premier League side Onduparaka FC 3-1 at Nakivubo Stadium to win their first Uganda Cup trophy.

Erisa Ssekisambu gave Vipers the lead 16 minutes into the opening half before Pius Wangi doubled the advantage at the half-hour mark.

Gadafi Wahab tucked in beautifully a free-kick from 30 yards out to pull one back for Onduparaka eleven minutes before the break and provide a much-needed relief for the vibrant travelling fans.

But with less than 25 minutes left on the clock, Wangi netted his brace and Vipers’ third to all but snuff out any lingering hopes for the visitors in a pulsating, entertaining final played on a damp turf.

Vipers humbled Bul FC 8-1 at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru in September 2021 in a closed door duel played under rainy conditions to win their second Uganda Cup honors.

Yunus Sentamu led the damage with four goals, Ceaser Lobi Manzoki added a brace before a goal apiece by Livingstone Mulondo and Milton Karisa. Substitute Hamis Tibita scored the consolation for BUL.

The game saw Vipers set a new record of most goals by a club in a single final match in the Uganda Cup.

Hilary Mukundane will not feature against Bul FC. The defender was part of Mbarara City FC team in the round of 64 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Ibrahim Orit is still out injured. Goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora could not return in time for the contest.

Ibrahim Mugisha, Vipers SC Goalkeeping Coach said the club will be looking to write history by wining a double.

“I don’t think it will be the same as last year. I congratulate coach Alex Isabirye for reaching back to back finals. It’s not going to be an easy final according to the environment, Stadium and I expect a tough match which we will hopefully win.”

“We would love to go in history of winning the double and we are working hard with the players so as to reach the fate.”

Bul FC will attempt to win their first Uganda cup final against Vipers’ SC.

Meanwhile, Bul FC have a full squad ahead of the cup final this afternoon. Defender Lawrence Kasadha is the only player sidelined for the Jinja bulls.

Bul FC assistant coach Dan Kabale echoed that they will aim to win the Uganda Cup after missing out on the last edition.

This is the trophy we have so much tried our best to play for and we want to win it, he said, When you look at the team that played last season when we lost 8-1, it’s not the same team that is going to play this time.

This time the best team that BUL has ever had will be assembled.”
