Uganda Bombers bow out of the African Boxing Championships with 7 medals.
The Uganda team at the Africa Boxing Confederations Championship in Yaoundé, Cameroon took home 7 medals at a go. The championship took place from 25th July until 6th August .
Uganda Bombers Captained by Joshua Tukamuhebwa had 17 boxers representing Uganda in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Men’s category: Kalema Joseph (48Kgs minimum), Wasswa Ssali (60Kgs Light) , Matovu Ukasha (67Kgs Welter) , Kaytwa Lawrence (86Kgs Cruiser) ,Geko Solomon (92+Kgs S/Heavy), Okello Ronald (75kgs Middle) , Tukamuhebwa Joshua (63.5Kgs L/Welter), Semuddu Muzamir (71kgs L /Middle), Mukiibi Idris (80Kgs L/Heavy), Baraka James (92Kgs Heavy) ,Mulungi Khassim (57kgs Feather)
Women’s category: Nakinga Grace (50Kgs Fly) , Ndagire Shalua (57Kgs Feather), Nandaula Zahara (63.5Kgs L/Welter) , Namutebi Erina (60Kgs Light) , Nakalema Emily (67kgs Welter) , Najjemba Nadia (54Kgs Bantam)
This was the first time that Uganda was represented by at-least 6 Female Boxers.
The team that only dreamed of only gold medals managed to grab 5 bronze medals and 2 silver medals .
Wasswa Ssali who reached the finals scooped a Silver medal after settling for the second position .
Ssali defeated Kitangila Idris of DRC in the semi finals before a defeat to Sogwayi Sanele of South Africa in the men’s final.
Namutebi Erina whose hopes also eyed for Gold after winning by RSC round 2 against Mulungo Sandra of Mozambique finished second after being defeated by Chahib Hichrak from Algeria in the women’s final.

Silver medal winners: Namutebi Erina , Wasswa Ssali
Bronze winners are set to pocket $5000 each and $10000 for each silver medal winner as their take home tokens.
