Uganda Cranes Squad to face South Africa and Congo next Month.

2 min read

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put has announced a 28-man squad for the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Congo. The squad sees the return of left-back Joseph Ochaya and goalkeeper Charles Lukwago.

Bevis Mugabi, who missed the World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria, is included in the squad.

In a significant development, Calvin Kabuye, a winger from Swedish second-tier side Sandvikens IF, has received his first call-up. Kabuye, 21, previously played for Sweden’s U23 national team in a friendly against Denmark last year but has now chosen to represent Uganda.

However, Allan Kyambadde, Herbert Bockhorn, Mubiru Uche, Moses Opondo, and Herbert Ssewankambo will miss out due to injuries.

Defenders Halid Lwaliwa and Kenneth Semakula are unavailable for the first match against South Africa due to visa issues. Both players will be available for the second game against Congo Brazzaville in Namboole.

Uganda is in Group K for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, along with South Africa, Congo Brazzaville, and South Sudan.

The Cranes will kick off their qualification campaign against South Africa in Johannesburg on September 6th, before hosting Congo at Namboole Stadium on September 9th.
