West Nile-born striker Sadat Anaku completed a two-year move to American side Hartford Athletic, joining the club in the competitive USL Championship.

The former KCCA FC forward takes another significant step in his professional career as he heads to the United States in search of a fresh challenge and greater exposure on the international stage.

Born in Arua, Anaku rose through the ranks at KCCA FC, where he made a name for himself as one of Uganda’s most promising attacking talents. Known for his pace, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing, he quickly became a key figure in KCCA’s forward line.

His impressive performances earned him a move to Scottish Premiership side Dundee United in 2022. Although injuries limited his impact in Scotland, the stint provided valuable European experience and tactical growth.

After returning to Uganda and regaining form with KCCA, Anaku attracted interest abroad once again — this time from the United States.

Hartford Athletic, based in Connecticut, compete in the USL Championship — the second tier of American soccer and one of the most competitive leagues outside Major League Soccer (MLS). The league has become an attractive destination for emerging international talents seeking development and visibility.

Anaku’s signing is seen as part of Hartford’s ambition to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. His direct style of play and eye for goal are expected to add dynamism to the club’s front line.

The move is a proud moment for West Nile and Ugandan football at large. Anaku joins the growing list of Ugandan players making strides in North America, further showcasing the country’s expanding football footprint.

For the 25-year-old forward, the two-year contract represents more than just a transfer — it is an opportunity to relaunch his international journey and prove his quality in a new environment.

As the new season approaches, attention will be on how quickly the West Nile striker adapts to life in the USL Championship and whether he can rediscover the goal-scoring form that once made him one of Uganda’s brightest prospects.
