Rugby Super Week kicks off in Arua city<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nile Leopards Rugby Club, in conjunction with Uganda Rugby Union, have kicked off the Rugby Super Week. The one-week training which focuses on beginner courses in Rugby commenced yesterday Tuesday, 5 April and will end on Friday, 9 April, 2022 at Coco Palms in Arua city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The courses include Level 1 Rugby coaching, Level 1 Rugby Referee, Rugby First Aid, Sports Strength and conditioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Adebua Malon, the Regional Development Officer, Uganda Rugby Union \u2013 Northern Uganda, the training has been named \u2018Super Week\u2019 because of back-to-back trainings spread throughout the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYesterday we started with level one (match officiating referees). Today we are doing coaching, tomorrow we are doing first aid in Rugby, and that one we actually encourage other people from other sports to also come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have big football teams here (referring to Onduparaka FC and Arua Hill SC), their medics can come. And then on Friday, we will do Level 1 strength and conditioning,\u201d said Malon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese are going to become level one coaches,\u201d he added, \u201cthey can go back to schools and coach, they can form clubs and coach, same as officiating. We don\u2019t want to send a referee from Gulu, Lira or Kampala to officiate [in Arua] when there are people here who can do the work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, there are eight trainees undertaking the course. Malon noted that they expected more people to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c<\/em>We had targeted more than we are seeing. We wanted to work with a minimum of 15 people in terms of trainings. But 8 is not bad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the first time the Super Week has been organized in West Nile. Gulu (Northern Uganda), Fort Portal [Western Uganda], and Mbale [Eastern] have previously benefited from the training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Gulu will be hosting this year\u2019s Secondary Schools’ National Rugby Copa Coca-Cola Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
