Eugene Diamond League: Cheptegei Ready To Break His Own World Record<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ugandan 5,000m World Record holder Joshua Cheptegei has announced his aim for a world record at the Diamond League taking place in Eugene for the annual Prefontaine Classic. Cheptegei currently holds the best-ever times in the 5,000 and 10,000m. He also holds the 15km road race world record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, Cheptegei shocked the world when he beat a 16-year-old record belonging to the great Ethiopia athlete Kenenisa Bekele by over two entire seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The World champion will be looking to beat his own time of 12:35.36.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 25-year-old has been dominant ever since coming onto the scene. At the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, Cheptegai showed his dominance over the 5000m with a gold-medal-winning run in Tokyo. The Ugandan is also the reigning Commonwealth Games 5000m champion, as well as the reigning 10,000m world champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Diamond League in Eugene, Oregon, will take place on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 May 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday’s program features two 10,000m races that are part of the US Championships before a women\u2019s two miles, a women\u2019s 5000m, and a men\u2019s 5000m. On the eve of the meeting, organizers announced that based on the weather forecast for Saturday, the men’s pole vault, women’s high jump, and women’s discus events would be moved to also take place on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
