Aziz Kayondo Cup – Former Vipers SC Defender Starts Grassroot Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday<\/strong> – Former Vipers SC<\/a> and Uganda Cranes<\/a> defender Aziz Kayondo<\/a> has launched Aziz Kayondo Cup, a local football and netball tournament that aims to give back to the community where the defender grew up from. The tournament will be played at Nakateete Kyazanga Grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kayondo currently features for Real Monarchs<\/a>, a professional soccer club playing in the MLS Next Pro<\/a>, a third division league of American soccer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kayondo said this is the best way he could give back to the community that raised him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As a way to give back to the community that raised me, I give back to the people of Kyazanga and thank them for the love and support they’ve showed me this far<\/em>,”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This can be a stage for the next player from home. May the best teams win.”<\/strong><\/em> he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament will continue until 25th December when the finals for both football and netball will take place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The left-back joined Vipers SC from St. Mary\u2019s Secondary school. He won the 2019\/20 Uganda Premier League title and the 2020\/21 Stanbic Uganda Cup trophy with the kitende-based side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also won the 2019 Copa Coca-Cola with St. Mary\u2019s Kitende as well as winning Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSSA) games in the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kayondo was also a key figure for the Uganda U-20 team which finished as runners up in the 2021 U-20 AFCON that was took place in Mauritania. He was also named in the team of the tournament. He equally made it to the final three man shortlist for the Airtel FUFA Male Player of the year 2021 Awards that was won by his former teammate Bobosi Byaruhanga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20-year old Kayondo has featured 15 times for his club Real Monarchs, scoring one goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real Monarchs is owned by, and operates as the reserve team of, the Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake. While the senior club is based, and plays, in Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, <\/a>Utah, Real Monarchs SLC are based in the Real Salt Lake training facility in Herriman, Utah, playing out of Zions Bank Stadium.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
