Inter Milan to be crowned Serie A champions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inter Milan have closed in on their first Italian Serie A title since 2010<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second-half goals from former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen and former Borussia Dortmund right back Achraf Hakimi at Crotone brought Inter closer to the title<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inter will be crowned champions on Sunday if second-placed Atalanta fail to claim all three points at Sassuolo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denmark midfielder Eriksen broke the deadlock shortly after being brought on as a substitute by manager Antonio Conte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Achraf Hakimi added the second in injury time as the away win also confirmed bottom side Crotone’s instant return to Iterlian Series B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if Atalanta earn victory against Sassuolo, Inter could still find a way out to clinch their first title in ten years with four matches still left to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conte’s side are 14 points clear of Atalanta and have a superior head-to-head record over their nearest rivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would represent another title triumph for Conte, who led Juventus to three consecutive Serie A titles between 2012 and 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Italy and Chelsea manager has transformed Inter’s fortunes since arriving in May 2019, leading them to a Serie A runners-up finish and the Europa League final last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It followed a downturn in the club’s fortunes over much of the previous decade, having finished as low as ninth in 2013 and not reaching a major final in the previous seven seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile Juventus will miss out on the trophy after eight consecutive title clinches, thanks to their consistency over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The old ladies currently sit fifth on the Series A table on 66 points, sharing the same points with 4th placed Napoli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
