The Uganda U-20 National Football Men\u2019s team, known as the Uganda Hippos, is set to create history as they prepare to face hosts Ghana in the final of the 13th African Games at Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night (11 PM). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a thrilling semifinal, the Hippos staged a remarkable comeback, defeating Congo 4-2, with goals from Bruno Bunyaga (2), Abas Kyeyune, and Hakim Mutebi. Ghana secured their spot in the final with a narrow 1-0 victory over Senegal in the semifinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This marks the Uganda Hippos’ first-ever appearance in an African Games final, surpassing their previous best performance when they reached the semifinals in 1999. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interestingly, the current head coach, Morley Byekwaso, was a player in the 1999 team. Seeking redemption, Uganda aims to avenge their loss to Ghana in the final of the AFCON U-20 in Mauritania three years ago, where they were defeated 2-0.

Under Byekwaso’s guidance, the Hippos have maintained a perfect record, winning all four of their matches and emerging as the tournament’s top scorers with eight goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goals have been distributed among Bruno Bunyaga (2), Abasi Kyeyune, Hakim Mutebi, Usama Arafat, Ivan Irinimbabazi, Allan Oyirwoth, and Apollo Kagogwe.

Ghana, led by Desmond Sakyi Ofei, has also remained undefeated in the competition, winning three matches and drawing once. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The West African nation has a successful history in the African Games, having won gold in 2011 and securing two bronze medals in 1978 and 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
