Wydad and Al Ahly to play in the CAF Champions League Final
It’s a North African affair as Wydad and Al Ahly play in the CAF Champions League Finals, a repeat of the 2017 Finals.
Wydad emerged winners on an aggregate score of 4-2 against Petro Atletico and Al Ahly progressed 7-2 against ES Setif.
Wydad are appearing for the first time in the finals since the 2018/19 season and Al Ahly are appearing for their third consecutive final, winning the last 2 editions.
It will be a tough game for Al Ahly since the finals are going to be played in Casablanca, hosting the finals for the second consecutive time.
CAF Head of Operations & Media Relations, Luxolo September explained why Morocco was chosen to host the Finals.
He was quoted by Al-Hayah TV channel, “Back in January, we spoke to all African countries, only Morocco and Senegal requested to host the final.”
CAF stated that Senegal withdrew from hosting the final a few weeks ago.
It will be a final on home ground for Wydad and the decision made by CAF for Morocco to host the finals wasn’t welcomed by the current holders.
Al Ahly had their request rejected to host the finals by the African Football governing body stating a decision was made and it couldn’t be overturned.
It will be a hostile environment for Pitso Mosimane the Al Ahly Coach and the Egyptians as they travel for the finals.
Al Ahly hasn’t released any official statement against their rejection as yet. CAF has designated Mohammed V Stadium to host the ultimate game to be played on the 30th of May.
