Berewuleng edge TMT to retain GFF women’s Division one crown

Berewuleng FC have once again proven their dominance in Gambian women’s football after successfully defending their GFF Women’s Division One title, finishing ahead of a resilient TMT side following one of the most competitive campaigns in recent memory.

The Brikama-based outfit entered the season as defending champions and lived up to expectations, but their journey to another title was anything but straightforward. TMT emerged as genuine contenders, pushing the champions all the way to the final round and ensuring the race remained alive until the closing stages of the campaign.

Berewuleng’s consistency ultimately proved decisive. Key performances from prolific forward Sarah Jarju and contributions from across the squad helped the champions maintain their advantage at the summit despite constant pressure from their closest challengers. The club finished the season with 40 points, just three ahead of TMT, underlining how fiercely contested the title battle was.

For TMT, the campaign will be remembered as one of remarkable growth and determination. The side matched the champions for long stretches of the season and kept their hopes alive with crucial victories, including an important win over Red Scorpions in the penultimate round. Although they ultimately fell short, finishing second represents a significant achievement and signals their emergence as one of the country’s leading forces in women’s football.

The battle between Berewuleng and TMT also showcased the increasing competitiveness of the GFF Women’s Division One. For years, Red Scorpions dominated the domestic scene, but the rise of new challengers has added fresh excitement and elevated the standard of the league.

As Berewuleng celebrate another league triumph and prepare for continental assignments, TMT can take immense pride in a campaign that demonstrated their potential. If this season is anything to go by, the rivalry between the two sides could define the future of Gambian women’s football for years to come.
