English Gazelles set for historic Commonwealth Games Debut in Glasgow
Uganda’s women’s 3×3 basketball team, the Gazelles, are ready to write a new chapter in the country’s basketball history after confirming their place at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.The four-player squad arrives in Scotland carrying both momentum and expectation as Uganda prepares for its first-ever appearance in the women’s 3×3 basketball event at the Commonwealth Games.
Leading the team is experienced forward Jane Asinde, whose leadership and consistent performances have made her one of Uganda’s standout basketball figures. She is joined by Perus Nyamwenge, Jamila Nansikombi, and Melissa Akullu, forming a balanced squad capable of competing with some of the Commonwealth’s best.
Guiding the Gazelles from the sidelines will be Head Coach Nicholas Natuheereza, who will be tasked with steering Uganda through what promises to be a highly competitive tournament.The quartet heads into Glasgow fresh from international action, having recently represented Uganda at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Stop in Poitiers. That experience against elite opposition is expected to provide valuable preparation as they take on another major global stage.
