English Uganda Complete Africa’s 10-Team Line-Up for FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026
Uganda have become the 10th and final African nation to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup after defeating Ghana 8–7 on penalties in a dramatic TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 play-off.
The match ended 2–2 after normal time at CMVI-T11 on Saturday before Uganda held their nerve in a tense penalty shootout to secure the final World Cup ticket.
Mozambique had earlier secured the first play-off qualification spot, defeating Ethiopia 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw.
With the two play-off places now decided, Africa’s complete list of 10 representatives for the FIFA U-17 World Cup is confirmed.
The qualified teams are Morocco, Cameroon, Senegal, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Tanzania, Algeria, Mozambique and Uganda.
The eight quarter-finalists from the U-17 AFCON had already secured their World Cup places through their group-stage performances. The additional play-offs were introduced to determine Africa’s final two berths because the continent has 10 places at the expanded FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Uganda’s victory ended Ghana’s World Cup hopes, while Ethiopia also saw their campaign come to an end after their penalty shootout defeat to Mozambique.
The U-17 AFCON quarter-finals will see Morocco face Cameroon, Senegal take on Mali, Côte d’Ivoire meet Egypt, and Tanzania play Algeria.
While the battle for the continental title continues, Africa’s World Cup picture is now complete.
