Cameroon hold Off Senegal to secure 49–46 Victory at U18 AfroBasket

Cameroon survived a late Senegal fightback to secure a narrow 49–46 victory over Senegal at the 2026 FIBA U18 AfroBasket on Monday. The game was decided by fine margins, with Cameroon making the stronger start and building an early advantage before Senegal gradually fought their way back into the contest.

Cameroon took the opening quarter 12–8, before extending their lead in the second period. The Central Africans added 16 points in the second quarter while restricting Senegal to 10, taking a 28–18 lead into halftime. Senegal returned from the break with renewed intensity. The West Africans produced their best quarter of the game, outscoring Cameroon 15–8 in the third to cut the deficit to just three points heading into the final period.

The momentum appeared to be shifting, but Cameroon remained composed when it mattered most. Both teams scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, allowing Cameroon to preserve their three-point advantage and close out a hard-fought 49–46 win. Senegal’s inability to turn their third-quarter surge into a complete comeback ultimately proved costly, while Cameroon’s strong first half gave them enough cushion to withstand the late pressure.

Cameroon will take confidence from their ability to withstand Senegal’s second-half rally, while Senegal will be left to reflect on a slow start that ultimately separated the two sides in a game decided by just three points.
