1 min readDubbed the most prestigious individual award in the footballing world ,it considers individual performances of players .Despite being interrupted by COVID 19 in 2020. It has returned and numerous players are staking their claim to be crowned the world’s best. Messi and the Chelsea duo of Ķante and Jorginho are few of the main contenders that have certainly been impressive.
It was a disappointing campaign for the now PSG forward having lost the laliga title to Atletico Madrid despite having an impressive goal and assists tally for former club Barcelona. This however hasn’t hindered his performances having had most goals and assists at international level helping Argentina win the much needed Copa America to remove clouded judgment on his international career.
Messi has continued impressing for country having most recently broken Pele’s record tally of goals by scoring a hatrick against Bolivia to go two goals ahead of the legendary striker to a tally of 79 goals.The laliga best player of the 2020/21 compaign has certainly put up a strong challenge and it remains to be seen who will stop him.
However these remaining few months will be critical to see if the GOAT will get a 7th Ballon d’or to add to an already excellent tally.
