CHAN: Uganda Cranes Face Must Win to Make Quarterfinals Slot
January 22: Uganda-Côte d’Ivoire (Group B), Nelson Mandela Stadium (Baraki) in Algiers
Saturday – Uganda Cranes will play Ivory Coast in a must-win encounter in their last group stage match.
The East African nation are currently top of Group B on 4 points, one behind second placed Senegal, and a win tomorrow would seal a quarterfinal slot for the first time in history.
The Cranes started the tournament on a low after a goalless draw with DR Congo before securing their first win at a CHAN tournament, thanks to skipper Milton Karisa’s goal against West African giants, Senegal.
Uganda will be relying on a couple of players who have showed how good they are in the last two games. First choice goalkeeper Alionzi Nafian, Milton Karisa, Moses Waiswa and Ssemakula are some of the key players the Cranes will look to against the Ivorians.
The Cranes conducted a light training session on Friday evening at the Annex I Baraki Stadium in Algiers.
The team also had a familiarization tour around Nelson Mandela Stadium.
