Sunday – StarTimes Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers have suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Gaddafi FC at Kakindu Stadium, Jinja.
The hosts took the lead in the first minute through forward Alex Kitata who capitalized on a sleepy venoms’ defence.
The visitors were the better side for the first 45 minutes but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Karim Watambala almost leveled the scores with a hard-hit shot which was dealt with by Joel Mutakubwa, while Ibrahim Orit’s follow-up was flagged offside.
The Venoms returned energized for the last 45 minutes but struggled to find a route to goal, manned by the determined soldier boys.
Vipers custodian Alfred Mudekereza was forced to produce a moment of brilliance in the 67th minute to deny Gaddafi’s Amos Kirya for the hosts second goal of the evening.
Najib Yiga showed a moment of brilliance 15 minutes from time with an individual effort, however, his shot was well dealt with by Gaddafi’s goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.
The Soldier Boys managed to hold on to their slim 1-0 advantage to deny Vipers three points.
Gaddafi FC have now won four matches in the league since the start of the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.
