Gambia U17 Beat Liberia 2–1 to Secure AFCON Qualification

The Gambia U17 national team have booked their place at the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after securing a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Liberia in the semi-final of the WAFU Zone A U17 tournament.


The Baby Scorpions came into the contest knowing that a place in the continental finals was at stake, and they delivered when it mattered most.


The encounter proved to be a competitive battle between two West African sides, with The Gambia eventually doing enough to claim victory and advance to the tournament final.


The 2–1 triumph means The Gambia have not only secured their place in the U17 AFCON finals in Morocco, but have also earned a place in the WAFU Zone A U17 final.


The qualification represents another important milestone for Gambian youth football, giving the Baby Scorpions an opportunity to test themselves against the best young teams on the continent.
Attention now turns to the regional final, where The Gambia will look to complete their campaign on a high and lift the WAFU Zone A U17 title.
