CAF Champions League – Jwaneng Galaxy v Vipers SC

Vipers SC will attempt to get their CAF Champions League Preliminary campaign off the ground when they host Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy at Lobatse Sports Complex on Sunday.

Domestically, Vipers SC were crowned Champions of the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The venoms clinched the title on the final day of the season after securing a convincing 5-0 win over Busoga United FC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

With Vipers SC’s superior goal difference, URA’s defeat at the hands of SC Villa 1-0 at Wankulukuku gave Vipers the league on a silver platter.

Last year, Vipers SC became the second Ugandan side to qualify for the group stages of the CAF Champions League after a 4-2 victory over TP Mazembe in spot kicks.

However, they were eliminated with a game to spear after a 1-1 draw with Moroccan side Raja Casablanca.

Vipers head coach Leonard Martins Neiva will now be tasked with the responsibility of taking the club to their second CAF Champions League group stage.

The experienced tactician who signed a two-year contract replaced Alex Isabirye who resigned from his role as the head coach of the kitende-based side.

Meanwhile, Botswana side Jwaneng will be facing Vipers for the first time in the CAF Champions League preliminaries.

Jwaneng are the winners of the 2022/23 Botswana Premier League. They will be hoping to upset the Ugandan club in their quest to progress to the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
