VIPERS SC clinches narow win over UPDF FC.

Vipers SC strengthened their hold on the Uganda Premier League summit with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over a resilient UPDF side at Kitende on Tuesday night.
The match was a testament to the competitive spirit of both teams, with Vipers ultimately emerging victorious thanks to a decisive header from substitute Gusto Mulongo in the 73rd minute.
The winning goal came after UPDF goalkeeper Richard Anyama spilled Allan Okello’s free-kick, and Mulongo pounced on the rebound, nodding the ball home with precision. The goal sparked jubilant celebrations among the home fans, who had witnessed a closely contested match.

Throughout the game, Vipers created several scoring opportunities, but UPDF’s disciplined defense held firm. Milton Karisa had two notable chances in the first half, including a one-on-one opportunity that Anyama expertly denied. Yunus Sentamu also missed a promising chance from inside the area, firing narrowly wide.

Vipers had a strong penalty appeal turned down on the stroke of halftime when Okello appeared to be fouled by Anyama in the box. Despite the setback, Vipers continued to pile on the pressure after the break, dominating possession and creating scoring opportunities.
Okello had a golden chance to double Vipers’ lead but missed with only the keeper to beat. Sentamu was also denied twice by Anyama’s outstanding reflexes before being replaced by Mulongo at the hour mark.

Mulongo’s impact was immediate, and his header not only secured the win but also showcased his clinical finishing ability. Even in the dying moments, Vipers had opportunities to extend their lead, with Karisa and Okello both coming close, only to be thwarted by Anyama’s inspired goalkeeping.
The victory moves Vipers to 62 points, eight points clear of second-placed NEC FC, who face Mbarara City in their next fixture. UPDF, despite the loss, put up a valiant effort and remain 10th on the table with 33 points.
