Guinean Journalist Daouda Bah Loses Left Eye After Brutal Attack in Conakry
Daouda Bah, a Guinean sports journalist working with Radio Télévision Guinéenne (RTG), has suffered the permanent loss of his left eye following a violent attack on August 25, 2025, in Conakry.

According to witnesses, Bah was riding home from work when a group of assailants intercepted him, stole his motorbike, and launched a brutal assault. The journalist reported that, after identifying himself as a media professional, one of the attackers stabbed him in the left eye with scissors.
“On Monday, August 25, 2025, at around 5 p.m., on the road between Bomboly and Koloma, a group of young people claiming to be protesters violently attacked me. They took all my work equipment, stabbed me in the left eye with a pair of scissors, broke my jaw with stones, and damaged my teeth. My left eye has been irretrievably lost,” Bah recounted.
Bah was initially taken to Donka University Hospital, where he received emergency treatment. He was later visited by Mourana Soumah, Guinea’s Minister of Information and Communication, who condemned the assault as “an inadmissible act” and assured that authorities would investigate.
With government support, Bah was subsequently transferred to Tunis for specialized medical care.
The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) has strongly condemned the attack, urging Guinean authorities to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
This shocking incident highlights the growing dangers faced by journalists in Guinea and underscores urgent calls for greater protection of media professionals in the country.
