KCCA FC vs Vipers SC – Lugogo Trends as Kampala Derby Looms

Thursday – A new lease of life will be injected into the Kampala derby as Express are ready to take on a rejuvenated KCCA FC which could well emerge as the game of the day in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The last six fixtures between the two sides have ended in a stalemate, but KCCA’s recent form under Morley Byekwaso has spiced up things a bit. The Kasasiro boys shrugged off their initial difficulties with four wins in their last five games, including two excellent outings against SC Villa and URA FC.

Express meanwhile have struggled in the past few weeks, losing three of their last league matches, including the recent 1-0 routine loss to Arua Hill.

I must admit that we are not in a good situation having lost our last consecutive three games it is indeed a poor run for such a big club. In training this week we have tried so much to rectify the mistakes we have been doing especially in defense.

The players have been responding well to the tactics and I am hopeful we shall win because losing a fourth straight game will not be good for us. I know how good a team KCCA is with brilliant players the likes of Allan Okello and Moses Waiswa and equally a fantastic coach Morley Byekwaso but we shall be looking for maximum points.” said Express head coach James Odoch.

KCCA won their previous game 4-0 against Onduparaka, to flex their muscles before this crucial clash.

“It is a derby and such games are of a huge magnitude. We know what is at stake and we want to win. If we focus on playing well, we know the results will come. We need to focus on our principles and if we get that right on the day then we shall win. We have Ayella, Wabyoona and Revita back but they are still lacking in terms of the right levels of match fitness. Obenchan will miss the game due to injury but we shall have able replacements in that department,” said KCCA FC manager Morley Byekwaso.

The Kampala Derby could not have come at a perfect time, and KCCA would be happy to see off the Red Eagles in order to return to the league summit. The 8 time league champions are rubbing their shoulders with Vipers, who have maintained a stronghold at the top. The match should throw some fireworks as a Kampala Derby never ceases to amaze, and this time, too, both managers will be engaged in a fierce tactical battle.
