In a thrilling start to the 2023/24 Big League season, Lugazi FC showcased their prowess with a convincing 3-0 victory over Ndejje University at their home ground in Najjembe.

The match kicked off with high energy, and within just 6 minutes, Lugazi’s Sam Ssemugugu found the back of the net.

However, his goal was disallowed due to an offside call. Undeterred, Ssemugugu went on to score a remarkable goal later in the game, receiving a precise long ball from defender Savio Kabugo and slotting it into the net with his left foot, giving Lugazi FC a well-deserved lead.

Before halftime, Lugazi FC had several opportunities to extend their lead. Unfortunately, two more goals were flagged offside, and Moses Buga and Akodi Solomon missed three excellent chances.

In the 57th minute, Ronald Ssempala came close to doubling the lead but narrowly missed the target.

But the real hero of the day was Sam Ssemugugu, who secured his brace by doubling the lead for Lugazi FC. Ndejje University’s goalkeeper failed to save a shot from the forbidden area, allowing Ssemugugu to capitalize on the rebound and make it 2-0.

Although Samuel Nsubuga had a chance to make it 3-0, goalkeeper Eric Kimbowa made an incredible save in a one-on-one situation. Moments later, Shafik Kiryowa’s powerful shot struck the crossbar.

The icing on the cake came when Mubarak delivered the ball inside the box from a low corner, setting up Derrick Mwanjje, who cleverly scored, stretching Lugazi’s lead.

Ndejje University did have their moments, with Kayongo creating their best chance of the game, only to see his shot kiss the crossbar and go wide.

Ndejje University had previously suffered a 4-3 defeat to Karo Karungi in their first league game of the season, while Lugazi FC made a strong statement with their opening match.

As the BetPawa Big League continues, the excitement is far from over. Fans can look forward to the upcoming clash between Jinja North United and Police FC at Kyabazinga Stadium this Saturday. The stage is set for more thrilling football action in the league.
