Monday – The organizers of the Madi Run 2022 have confirmed that all is set ahead of the run that will take place on Wednesday 28 upto Thursday 29 December at Paridi Stadium, Adjumani.

The run that is organized by Anawim Africa project and sponsored by Pixan Mobile and Energy is aimed at raising funds to procure incubators for Adjumani hospital.

Uganda has a high premature births rate of 14 per 1000 live births. These premature births are directly responsible for 8/27 neonatal deaths per 1,000 live births in Uganda and remains among the top three causes of death during the neonatal period in Uganda.

“In a recent survey conducted by Makerere School of Public Health in conjunction with Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO), various health centers and hospitals in Madi sub-region were visited and attention was drawn to the department of maternal and child health specifically neonatal intensive care unit.

“We realized that hospitals in the sub-region had a shortage of incubators. Adjumani hospital had only one working incubator and there are two functional incubators in Moyo hospital. We also realized that these premature babies would share incubators, say two to three babies in one incubator which puts the infants at a high risk of infections which could easily kill them.

“That is why Anawin Africa has launched a campaign to have more incubators in madi sub region, through the Madi Community Run 2022.” a statement by the organizers partly read.

There will be different distances for participants to choose from on the day; 5km, 10km, and 2km walk. The event will also be characterized by other activities such as a cultural gala, and a free health camp.

The locations for purchasing kits include; Kampala Zaid Plaza, Dramat Multi Services in Adjumani and Mammies Boy in Moyo. A shirt goes for Shs 30,000 while vests cost Shs 25,000.
