Parliament is to Blame for Slow Growth of Sports – Hon. Basalirwa

Wednesday – The president of Justice Forum (JEEMA), also Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament Honorable Asuman Basalirwa has blamed the 11th parliament for ‘letting down the sports industry.’

He made the remarks while appearing on Sports this Morning, a morning sports show on NBS Sports Television.

“The criticism you are putting on Parliament is legitimate because we have let down sports. It is an embarrassment that a National team plays their games in a private facility. You guys are right to hold Parliament accountable.”

He also pointed out that Presidential candidates on most occasions undermine sports in their manifestos.

“Look at the manifestos of the presidential candidates, the idea of sports is spoken last. This says a lot about the sports position in the country.”

Hon. Basalirwa went ahead to blame the media for putting Sports last in their news bulletings.

“You media houses are also partly to blame, you bring sports last in your news.”

However, he appreciated the efforts of Kin Karisa, the Group CEO of Next Media Services, in the growth of the Sports industry.

“I’m so thankful for my brother Kin Karisa who has provided a dedicated channel that only shows Ugandan sports 24/7. This will help in the growth of the sector.”
