The Pepsi University league returns next week after two years of rest due to the global pandemic that crippled everything in the world including sports sector with the additional of more two universities.
The Competition last played in March 2020 after schools were closed as a measure to curb the deadly pandemic making it hard for the league to continue due to the longer closure of institutions.
The 10th edition of the University league will resume on Tuesday, 5th of April 2022 with Victoria university on it’s inaugural competition.
This year’s edition will make the return of Makerere University that has been on a 4years due to hooliganism, it’s joined by Ndejje University totalling it to 22 Universities in the competition.
At the draws held yesterday at Kati Kati restaurant in Kampala, there will be 22 teams in six groups of four and three teams.
The top teams in each group and the best two runners up will continue to the knock out stages with the finals set for November at a venue that will be communicated later.
” The league will climax in November this year but the venue will be communicated towards the final.”– Patrick Ssebuliba, one of the Organizing Committee members.
” It’s pleasure to see University football back after two years of Covid and as a tutor at Makerere University, she is happy that her university is back after four years of ban due to hooliganism.“- Uganda University Sports Association president, Peninah Kabenge while addressing the media.
“It feels good for Makerere to be back in the league and am sure the players who were more affected are surely happy, we’re working around the clock to see that we don’t have hooliganism in the league again,we don’t want to see it happening again especially when we are celebrating ten years of university football league.” She added.
