Onduparaka Fc are out of the Uganda Cup after a 1-0 home defeat to SC Villa saw them cruise out of the cup tournament.
A first half goal, courtesy of Benson Muhindo was enough to separate the two tremendously mundane sides and put the 9 times cup holders through to the last 8.
The Caterpillars were the more enterprising team for much of the first half as they tried to press SC Villa with some success, rushing ‘the jogoos’ side to the delight of the crowd.
There were moments, hints that Petros Koukouras‘ side might fold. Muhammad Shaban came close to leveling the tie in the 30’ minute after a throw from right-back John Rogers, forcing Villa custodian Martin Ssenkooto to make a handy save to deny the skipper.
The caterpillars kept the pressure on through Matata Gabriel and skipper Shaban who both hit the cross-bar in the 33′ and 43′ minutes respectively.
At the start of the second-half, Michael Kagiri came on for custodian Mathias Muwanga in goal after the latter was reportedly injured at half time.
Okech Emmanuel had the first clear chance of the match in the second half. The forward failed to find the back of the net after a dazzling cross from Matata Gabriel.
There was little realistic chance of Onduparaka FC pulling off something extraordinary against SC Villa in this cup-tie. The Green army has a task of maintaining their stay in the League rendering the Uganda Cup less relevant.
However, this was still a dismal evening for Onduparaka because it was so predictable. Punished after being exposed in the box, what followed was grim: the caterpillars tried to find a way through SC Villa’s defensive block. Ideas lacked!
What next for the two sides…
Next for Onduparaka FC is an away trip to face Police FC at MTN Omondi Stadium on Friday 8 April, 2022.
Meanwhile ‘the jogoos’ welcome Express FC on Saturday 9 April, 2022 at 4:00 PM.
