U-20 AFCON – Gambia score late to edge Tunisia

Alagie Saine’s header was the difference for The Gambia to seal the victory in their AFCON U-20 opener against Tunisia.

Benin 1-1 Zambia

Wednesday – Gambia squeezed past Tunisia with a narrow 1-0 victory at Limbe Stadium. Skipper Alagie Saine’s extra time goal was the only difference in what was a cagey affair.

The Gambia dominated possession against the Young Carthage Eagles but had to wait until six minutes from time to find the back of the net in their Group C clash on Tuesday afternoon.

The result guaranteed The Gambia their first win in the U-20 AFCON opener for the first time since 2007.

Gambia are top of Group C with 3 points. Benin and Zambia are second and third with a point respectively, and Tunisia is bottom without a point.

The West Africans are appearing at their fourth TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. They won bronze twice in their three previous participations in the tournament.
