 Uganda U-17 Team Starts Training Ahead of CAF Zonal (CECAFA) Qualifiers

Tuesday – Uganda National Men’s U-17 Football team, nicknamed, Uganda cubs have started training and mandatory exercises before a final squad is named for further sessions ahead of the CAF Zonal (CECAFA) qualifiers.

This year’s qualifiers will be played in Ethiopia from 30th September to 15th October 2022.

More than 60 players were summoned in the initial stages of the exercise. Most of these players were scouted from the various FUFA youth tournaments and competitions throughout the year which include others; USSSA Football Championships held in Arua & Lira, CAF Pan African Schools Championship & players already in the FUFA Youth players database.

U-17 National Team Manager Bashir Mutyaba:

“We had trials for over ten days where we initially had 66 players that have gone through different tests and trials by the coaches, and we have come up with a number of 35 players.”

According to FUFA, the players will undergo various medical tests including MRI, collection of data and passport processing, after which, the final squad will be selected by Head Coach Hamzah Lutalo and his assistant Brian Ssenyondo.
