Uganda’s Hippos Stage Sensational Comeback to Reach African Games Football Final
1 min readThe Uganda Under 20 men’s national team, the Hippos, staged a remarkable comeback against Congo Brazzaville at the Accra Sports Complex in Ghana, securing a spot in the finals of the African Games football category.
Congo initially took the lead with Servyl Akouala’s 15th-minute free kick, followed by Mignon Koto’s goal just before halftime, making it 2-0.
However, Uganda’s Hippos displayed resilience in the second half, with Abassi Kyeyune scoring to narrow the gap to 2-1. Bruno Bunyaga then scored two goals in quick succession, equalizing the scoreline at 2-2 and putting Uganda in the lead for the first time.
Hakim Mutebi secured the victory for the Hippos with a goal in the 81st minute, sealing a 4-2 win. With this victory, Uganda advances to the final and aims for its first gold medal.
They(Hippos) will face the black satellites of Ghana in the final, date to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, Congo and senegal’s Les Lions de la Teranga will compete for the bronze medal in the third-place playoff.
