CAF Awards 2022: Winners, Senegal Scoop Big, Oshoala Dominance Continues
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards returned yesterday after a two-year absence, occasioned by the outbreak of the COVID-9 pandemic in 2020.
The 2022 CAF winners were unveiled on Thursday night in Morocco’s capital, Rabat. This year, fans votes accounted for 70% of the total weight of the decision in regards to the CAF Goal of the Year. Laureates were chosen in 13 different categories.
Senegal and Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane was named Africa’s Men’s Player of the Year at the CAF Awards 2022 for the second consecutive time. Mane also won the 2019 edition; the last time the awards were held. He fought off competition from Edouard Mendy (Senegal & Chelsea) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt & Liverpool).
Meanwhile, Nigeria and Barcelona star Oshoala overtook her compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha, to stand alone as a record five-time winner of the African Player of the Year accolade.
