We Are Knocking West Nile Home and Away – Karamoja Province Vows

The FUFA Drum returns after a two-year absence due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Federation President Moses Magogo launched the third edition of the tournament in June. This year’s edition of the FUFA Drum will kick off on Saturday 30 July 2022.

“It is an exciting moment that the FUFA Drum is back. Football speaks to the language of passion and we are proud of ancestry, culture and identity. This tournament gives us an opportunity to be proud of where we come from and the first two editions proved it……………I remember when Buganda played Acholi at Pece Stadium and Ekitiibwa kya Buganda was played, it meant a lot in re-uniting the people.” – stated Magogo during the launch of the 2022 edition of the FUFA Drum.

Karamoja, that is currently facing a hunger strike, will begin their campaign against familiar opponents West Nile at Greenlight stadium on 5 August 2022.

In an exclusive interview on one of the radio stations in Arua (Nile FM 94.1), the media officer for Karamoja, Opong Jehoshaphat Jones, confirmed that the north-eastern side is more prepared than before to break the loss-curse against West Nile.

“The energy in Karamoja now,” he continued, “Karamoja is big, as a region. We have 27 MPs and this time around, they have all come together and are standing with the province. We shall surprise West Nile by knocking (them) home and away.”

In the first two editions of the FUFA Drum, head coach Okoboi Amos’ side struggled financially. However, Jones confirmed that Karamoja has enough facilitation going into this year’s edition.

“In the first and second edition, we lacked finance, facilitation and (yet) most of the players we have are mature and (players) who are married. Somebody comes to the camp, has left the family behind and does not have the positive mental attitude for going to the pitch. But this time around, there is enough facilitation, players have been in camp for a week now and we had our first friendly match yesterday, we defeated a team from Abim 4-0. So this gives us energy that this time around we are going to handle West Nile very well.”

KCCA FC and Italian midfielder Stefano Loro Mazengo, 26, is among the forty players summoned to feature for Karamoja. Mazengo signed a two-year contract with the kasasiro boys in 2020 with the option to extend.

KCCA FC midfielder Stefano Mazengo has been included in Karamoja Province FUFA Drum team for the 2022 edition.

The attacking midfielder was born to his Italian parents in Kenya and has lived in all the three traditional East African countries. (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania)
