Uganda Crested Cranes have eliminated Ethiopia to reach the finals of the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Sandra Nabweteme came close to opening the score inside 15 minutes but her effort went wide.
The hosts were forced to make an early change. Defender Aisha Nantongo was replaced by Rukia Namubiru in the 35th minute.
There were attacks from both teams with Uganda controlling much of the game, but either side failed to produce a match defining moment. Full time ended 0-0. Half time of extra time also ended 0-0.
Fazila Ikwaput came to the rescue of the Crested Cranes in 114th minute after the forward half-volleyed home skipper Hasifa Nasuna’s corner, ensuring a final slot for the Crested Cranes.
Ethiopia who are the Champions of the inaugural edition of the CECAFA Women’s Championship defeated hosts Uganda in the title-deciding match in November 2021 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Tanzania 1-2 Burundi
Burundi came from behind to beat Tanzania 2-1 in the second semi-final match at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Tournament top scorer Opa Clement gave Tanzania an early lead, seconds after start.
However The Tigwa stars lead could not last as Burundi leveled scores through Nasra Nahimana.
Tanzania made an early substitute in the 35th minute. Irene Kisisa came on for Janeth Pangamwene in the 36th minute.
Burundi kept on pushing for the winning goal. Their efforts paid off after Tanzania conceded a penalty in the 80th minute. Sandra Niyonkuru comfortably converted from the spot to send Burundi to the finals.

Uganda will play Burundi in the finals of the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship on Saturday 11 June, 2022.
