Uganda 4-0 Burundi
Uganda has finished top of Group A after coming from behind to edge Burundi 4-0 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
The Crested Cranes fell behind in the 10th minute after former Asubo Gafford Ladies striker Falonne Nahimana scored for Burundi.
Uganda responded four minutes later through current top scorer Fazila Ikwaput. The forward capitalised on a long ball from Burundi defence that was brought across her path by Juliet Nalukenge and beat the entire backline to slot home the equaliser.
Uganda’s head coach George Lutalo made tactical changes in the second period; Shamirah Nalugya, Sandra Nabweteme and Phiona Nabbumba replaced Joan Nabirye, Nabbosa and Nalukenge.
Uganda took the lead for the first time in the 47th minute through substitute Shamirah Nalugya whose superb strike went past Burundi’s custodian.
Sandra Nabweteme made it three for Uganda with 11 minutes to full time. The forward charged to the near post to tap home from Margaret Kunihira’s pass.
Nabwete scored his second and Uganda’s third with a glorious stoppage time strike.
The result leaves Uganda top of Group A on 9 points, Burundi finish in second place on 6 points, Rwanda are third on 3 points while Djibouti bow out of the tournament without a win.
