ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers – U-19 Girls Set For Botswana Trip

The U-19 Girls will be heading to Gaborone Botswana for the 1st edition of the U-19 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers that are set to take place from September 1st – 13th.

Head coach Yusuf Nanga and assistant Ivan Kakande have been taking the ladies through drills for the last two weeks.

According to Uganda Cricket Association, the 1st edition of the U-19 Women’s World Cup will be held in South Africa 2023 and this is a deliberate move by the ICC to make sure that the women’s game has the same events as the men’s game.

Uganda is in Group B alongside host Botswana, Namibia and Sierra Leone. The top two nations will pogress to the semi-finals and finals.

The winner of the tournament will earn the only spot to the World Cup. Meanwhile in Group A, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique will be vying for the two spots to advance to the semi-finals.

The squad of 18, including 14 players and 4 officials will fly to Botswana tomorrow (Thursday) morning. Uganda will begin their campaign against Namibia on Saturday morning.
