Ismail Sewaya Miti, the games teacher of one of the giant rugby schools in Uganda, Kiira College Butiki was recently elected as Uganda Schools Rugby Association Eastern Region representative.
The election took place on Saturday 27th of August 2022 at the Uganda rugby union headquarters, Lugogo and the rugby legend, Yayiro Kasasa presided over.
When Sewaya joined kiira College Butiki in 2014, told his colleague in the games department mr Owachi Samuel Stuart to put much emphasis on rugby that wasn’t well facilitated by the school administration and after his push, the school qualified the for the first national championship in 2015 hosted by Lango college, Lira district. And most notably qualifying for the East African games in 2019 in Arusha to represent the country
“I secured the first rugby uniform in 2015. Previously we were using football jersey.” Sewaya told Rab Sports News.
The Lugazi born official doubles as a referees delegate in FUFA’s Buganda region and also coordinator football in Mukono zone as well as General Secretary Buikwe Secondary schools sports Association.
These responsibilities appear quite many but the enthusiastic official told Rab Sports News he will be able to manage all.
“I see no challenge ahead of me because all the activities take place in different periods. So i will be able to juggle them all. However, regarding football and refereeing, there are many people that are interested in serving, so i may step aside administratively and only perform technical duties as a referee instructor and assessor. I have served football for a while so now let me try rugby, the gentleman’s game.”
Through school’s rugby, he has been able to contrive talented players now playing in rugby clubs. To mention some of the products, the duo of Abwang Godwin and Fudribo Anabo Rian playing for Rams, Wampande Shafik for Impis, Magero Humphrey and Alisobola Peter.
