Magogo: Playing for Uganda Cranes Is a Blessing

FUFA President Moses Magogo has reminded Uganda Cranes players that featuring for the national is a blessing because so many very good players never got a chance to play for their national team(s).

Magogo made the remarks on Thursday while being hosted on 𝐓𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐎𝐦𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐢𝐫𝐚 Sports Show on FUFA FM.

He said that there are over 40 million Ugandans but only 11 people at the time are selected to represent the national team.

“Playing for the National Teams (@UgandaCranes) is a blessing because so many very good players never got a chance to play for their national team(s). You may have been good but with someone better than you playing your position,” he said

“The National team concerns every one of us in some way or the other. We are over 40 million Ugandans but only 11 people at the time are selected to represent us. It should be our pride as a nation.”

Magogo also rubbished reports that he was involved in team selection choices for Uganda Cranes’ upcoming engagements where Vipers SC forward Yunus Ssentamu was left out, causing an outburst among sports pundits and the public.

“National team coaches select their players, don’t allow them to fool you. From Desabre to Micho, all of them. Even here in the UPL so if someone comes out to tell you that the president selects the players, they are confused and trying to make you a fool as well.”

About allegations of the federation blocking the summon of players to the national team because they mentioned something about money, Magogo labeled such as ’empty talk’.

“Don’t buy into the empty talk that a player was not summoned because he or she mentioned something about money. Players are paid as and when due because we also get that money from the government. Players have a right to demand their money and in case of any delays communication is made.”

Uganda Cranes have two upcoming engagements in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
