SC Villa to Compete in CECAFA Kagame Cup 2024: Tournament Rescheduled and Expanded

Seventeen-time Startimes Uganda Premier League champions, SC Villa, are gearing up to represent Uganda in the upcoming Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Kagame Cup.

The highly anticipated tournament, originally slated to take place from July 20th to August 4th in Tanzania, has undergone a significant rescheduling due to the busy CAF calendar.

Now, set to kick off on July 6th and culminate on July 22nd, 2024, the CECAFA Kagame Cup promises to be a thrilling showcase of football talent across the region.

The decision to adjust the tournament dates was made to ensure it concludes just days before the commencement of the 2024/2025 CAF Club competitions, allowing teams ample preparation time.

In light of this rescheduling, the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup 2024, initially slated for June 29th to July 14th, has been canceled.

This adjustment aims to afford players the necessary time to prepare adequately with their respective teams for the prestigious CECAFA Kagame Cup.

A total of 16 formidable teams, including SC Villa, will grace the tournament stage this July.

Joining them are esteemed clubs such as Vital ‘O (Burundi), APR FC (Rwanda), El Merreikh, Al Hilal, Hai El Wadi (Sudan), Young Africans SC, Simba SC, Azam FC, Coastal Union FC (Tanzania), Gor Mahia FC (Kenya), JKU SC (Zanzibar), El Merreikh FC-Bentiu (South Sudan), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Nyasa Big Bullets FC (Malawi), and Red Arrows FC (Zambia).

Recent confirmations from guest sides TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Nyasa Big Bullets (Malawi), and Zambia’s Red Arrows FC have further elevated the excitement surrounding the tournament.

Notably, the CECAFA Kagame Cup, last held in the 2020/21 season, saw Express Football Club (Uganda) emerge victorious.

As SC Villa prepares to take on this prestigious tournament, they aim to bolster their CECAFA trophy cabinet and leave a lasting mark on the competition’s storied history.
