StarTimes Uganda Premier League Returns with an Explosive ‘Authority Derby’: Will the Kasasiro Boys Be Taxed?

The wait is almost over for football fans across the country as the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) kicks off its 2024/2025 season on Friday, 13th September 2024, with a blockbuster clash between KCCA FC and URA FC.

The two sides, known for their high-intensity encounters, will square off at the MTN Omondi Stadium, in what has been dubbed the “Authority Derby.”

This opening fixture is not just another league match. It pits the Kasasiro Boys (KCCA FC) against the Tax Collectors (URA FC), two of Uganda’s most successful football clubs.

KCCA FC, a 13-time league champion, will be looking to bounce back after a season where they finished third, 8 points behind eventual winners SC Villa. On the other hand, URA FC, who finished in fourth place last season, are hungry to reclaim their spot at the top.

Both teams have bolstered their squads during the off-season, and this derby will serve as a litmus test for their title ambitions.

KCCA FC: The Kasasiro Boys Aim to Dominate

Under the stewardship of Abdallah Mubiru, KCCA FC will be looking to make a statement on home turf. Their forward line, spearheaded by young star Abu Mayanja after the departure of Muhammad Shaban, promises goals, and with creative midfielders like Ashraf Mugume, KCCA FC will aim to break down URA’s defense early.

URA FC: Can the Tax Collectors Surprise?

URA FC have always been a hard nut to crack, boasting one of the most organized defensive units in the league. Under the new coach Alex Isabirye, the Tax Collectors have emphasized structure and discipline as they prepare for the new season.

Their key threat will come from young star and Uganda Hippos forward Bruno Bunyaga. If he finds his form early, KCCA FC’s backline could be in trouble.

Tactical Breakdown

KCCA FC will likely dominate possession, with their slick passing style and high pressing game, while URA FC may look to sit deep and hit on the counterattack. The pace of Moses Aliro and Viane Sekajugo down the flanks could be crucial for URA, especially if KCCA FC push high up the pitch.
