Vipers SC sign ex-Arua Hill left-back Richard Matovu as a free agent

The 24-year-old defender has been without a club since departing Arua Hill SC at the end of the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier league back in June.

““I am very excited and can’t wait to work with the group. Things didn’t pan out as I would have loved and when Vipers came calling, it was a no brainer for me to move. I am happy the deal got done.” said Matovu while being unveiled at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende.

“I am buzzing to be here and can’t wait to get going. It is a beautiful challenge that I am delighted to be a part of. I hope I can steer the club to more glory.”

Richard Matovu has been one of the most consistent players for the Arua based side, while making 47 league appearances across two seasons.

“Amazing club, management, fun and a sweet home; I can’t believe I’m saying goodbye to this great team, especially the players, coach and beautiful fun (fans). I am very lucky that (I) have a dressing room with you guys,” Matovu shared on his social media platforms after departing the club.

Matovu made 25 appearances in the league last season, as he helped Arua Hill secure a top four finish with 44 points.

Asides Arua Hill SC, Matovu played for BUL FC and Kyetume FC in the Uganda Premier League.
