Zambia’s football community mourns the loss of Rainford Kalaba, a revered figure in African football, following a fatal car accident. Kalaba, 37, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, which also claimed the life of his partner.
The accident occurred when Kalaba’s vehicle collided head-on with a heavy truck.
A former TP Mazembe star, Kalaba’s illustrious career included triumphs in the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and CAF Super Cup during his tenure with the DR Congolese side.
Additionally, he left a mark on Zambian football, representing clubs like Kitwe United and ZESCO United, with loan spells in Portugal. Notably, Kalaba was a pivotal member of Zambia’s historic 2012 AFCON-winning team, etching his name in football history.
